In contrast, on the highway, the transmission will use a high gear ratio to move the vehicle at your high speed while using little RPMs.<\/p>\n

To change gears, the clutch, or the third petal to the left of the brake pedal, must be pressed to release the clutch disc that is between the engine and the transmission. The driver then needs to select the gear he or she wishes to be in, and the place the disc clutch back into its place.<\/p>\n

One of the biggest differences between having an automatic and a manual transmission is the number of petals. A vehicle with an automatic transmission only has two petals. The vehicle will automatically change gears based on the position of the petal, the speed of the vehicle and the engine\u2019s revolutions.<\/p>\n
